Good for you! I experienced something similar in my 30’s and thankfully, the doctor I went to suggested a total hysterectomy and it was a relief to get past the month long periods and PMS when I wasn’t bleeding. Yours is an article that will inform and give hope to so many. Bless you! Praying your healing goes well and you are much improved
Im having a hysterectomy in two weeks. My story is different and the same as yours. Too many years of doctors dismissing me and me gaslighting myself. I'm 2 years into menopause which I thought would solve things. When it didn't i realized I needed to find someone to get the uterus out. Looking forward to it.
I can so relate. I suffered from horrible bleeding problems and pain for five years. Finally, an ultrasound technician told me to find an OB-GYN who would take it all out. I did, and he said I was so full of endometriosis he spent an extra 45 minutes trying to clean it off. I felt so much better when it was all over. I completely agree with you, women need better care and more attentive practitioners.
Mel, thank you so much for sharing this story! I’m so sorry for the pain you’ve experienced, both physical, and from being dismissed by doctors. It’s not right, and I’m so glad you finally got the surgery, and answers, you needed! I also had a hysterectomy, in 2021 (massive fibroids), and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I had an amazing doctor/surgeon, who never questioned my symptoms. I wish every woman had that kind of care - we deserve it. ❤️
Thank you for sharing this. What a nightmare. I am glad you finally found a doctor to listen you! I am sorry you suffered so long. It took me years, but I was fortunate when I finally found an amazing gyn who said, "I think you may have adenomyosis." She scheduled my hysterectomy two weeks later. They sent my uterus to pathology and confirmed it was indeed adenomyosis. I can't imagine your pain with complications on top of the adenomyosis. How are you doing now?
Thank you for your empathy 🧡 and for sharing a bit of your journey too. I am almost 3 weeks into my recovery and doing well. It’s good but slow. Praise God for k ow complications.
Wow, no this is not normal. I am so sorry that these medical professionals dismissed you. That is not right at all. But it is also hard to advocate for ourselves as women who grew up in the evangelical church as we're conditioned to accept what authority says to us--even when our physical experience is telling us otherwise.
Had you had a cesarean before? If so, a gynecologist should have definitely checked for the issue that you turned out to have. I'm glad you finally found one that actually saw you as a person and not a checklist of symptoms. <3
I did have a few gynos but because we were missionaries there was no consistency. And I don’t keep up like I should have. Yes to the evangelical aspect! I didn’t mention it because it did not fit in context but I was hoping someone would bring it up. It did come into play the whole “This is just the curse” and all.

I keep hearing that if you've had problems, it's a good decision. I am hopeful.

Thank you, Nancy! I'm so sorry you went through that, but I'm also glad you were able to get it taken care of.

I’m glad you wrote this. And that you advocated for yourself. And that this is over.
Also. Suffering women were told by medical practitioners to DRINK MORE ALCOHOL??? What in the actual…?
Right?? I have not heard that from a doctor but I believe them. The jerk doctor DID ask me if I understood the meaning of “intercourse”. 😂😂😂🤣😡😡😡😡😤😤😤😤😤
There's a traffic jam of responses in my brain right now.
